Pleasure Ridge Park High School is located in Louisville, Kentucky.  It is one of three Communications, Media & the Arts Schools of Study in the Jefferson County Public School system.  We have approximately 1,895 students that use four separate buildings on our campus..

The WPRP students have been producing a news magazine program for the past 20+ years.  On average the talent produces 6 shows a year.  In the 2011/2012 school year they set themselves a rigorous goal of 10 - 12 shows and were successful in producing and airing 10.  The class has had as few as nine students to as many as twenty.  The optimal class size is twelve to fifteen, so they can be divided up into two fairly equal teams.

The 2012/13 School year brought a new element to the PRP Media program.  We added a weekly pre-taped show called Ridge News.  That first year we started with 17 students from our intermediate classes.  That particular group of students had been together for at least 2 years and were up for the challenge.

This 2013/14 will bring a few new challenges.  Our first goal is a big win for PRP as we are now able to send live broadcasts directly from our studio to the entire PRP campus.  It took this past school year to lay all of the new fiber optic cable to make this a reality.  We are hoping to produce one live show per trimester for both WPRP and Ridge News.  Our second goal will  include a web based writing team that will turn our spotlight pieces into stories for the web. Last, but not least we will continue to improve our sports programming with our new show Panther Review produced by Jacob French.  Jacob will also be the commentator for the Friday Night Football home games while streaming live.

2012/2013 Program Highlights

Below are a few of our more significant program milestones this year

After two long years we finally have a backlit set.  Thanks to Brent from JCPS Materials Production.  It was a huge endeavor, but so worth the wait.

Our Advanced Multimedia class is in a news magazine format called WPRP.  They produce a show once every 4 weeks.  This year, two of the photojournalists, Brent and Jordan, entered pieces in the Western Kentucky University Mark of Excellence contest.  They both achieved 2nd Place in their division for Best Feature Story.  You can watch their winning pieces on the WPRP Highlights page.

The WPRP team also had the opportunity to work on two Service Learning Projects this year.  They teamed with Mill Creek and Greenwood Elementary Schools to create a Bus Safety Video for K-2 students.  Katie also raised her hand to produce and edit a Leadership Highlight Video for Mill Creek's inaugural Leadership Day on April 17th.   Two photojournalists from the Ridge News Team, Sydney and Abby, acted as film crew and Katie did all the creative work.  It turned out to be an awesome experience for all involved.

Several of our Multimedia I students entered the ReelActionKY Underage Drinking PSA contest.  One of the videos won in the Rising Start Category for Creativity (Thinking outside the box).  When given a challenge, Gerald A. will create some incredible stop motion videos.

The video is titled .....
